Olivia Molly Rodgers: morning routines, how she's active and why she wrote her first book
Olivia Molly Rodgers first won our heart in 2017 when she was crowned Miss Universe Australia and since then has continued to spark joy with women around Australia. She has been very honest and vulnerable with the public in opening up about mental health and learning to love yourself with her book Find your Light.
The dk active team asked her how she gets moving in the mornings and what inspired her to become an author.
For those who don't know you, tell us a little about yourself
I am a content creator, author & mental health advocate. I am also a speech pathologist but I am not currently practicing (I do really miss it, especially the kids!). I am originally an Adelaide girl but have been living in Melbourne for almost 5 years now. I love my life & I love what I get to do for work, I feel very lucky that I get to connect with so many people on a daily basis.
What does a typical morning look like for you?
This varies as my schedule is always changing. But I like to start the day with a workout when I can, either a run, pilates or a HIIT session. Then I have my decaf coffee and breakfast - which is my favourite meal - before getting stuck into work - whatever that may look like that day.
Olivia is wearing the Lay-Up Crop and Offence 7/8 Tight in beige for all her active workouts and activities.
How do you practice self care? How do you stay active in mind and body?
I practice self care in very practical ways. I eat regular nourishing meals, I drink plenty of water, I exercise regularly for my mental health, I ensure I get enough sleep & I listen to my body - rest is so important. I also check in with myself daily with a journal, which really helps my mental health.
What called you to write your book Find your Light?
When I was going through my darkest moments with my mental health, I felt so alone and I struggled to find people that were speaking openly, publicly about similar struggles. I figured I could help others by sharing my experience. I chose to write the book to be a source of support for people who are going through a hard time, I want them to know that they are not alone & that things can get better.
What is a takeaway from your book you use everyday?
For me, the first thing that comes to mind is kindness. Not only being kind to others, but practicing being kind to ourselves. It’s not always easy, but choosing to treat yourself with kindness every day can have such a positive impact on your mindset - it has helped me so much.
